Double the Dominance - Depth Of Character and Libertad Shine at Eagle Farm

It was a brilliant way to kick off the Queensland Winter Carnival, with a Group 2 double delivered by DEPTH OF CHARACTER and LIBERTAD.

DEPTH OF CHARACTER delivered a performance full of praise to take out the Group 2 Queensland Guineas, surging home for a dominant 2.5 length victory. Ridden confidently by Noel Callow, the three-year-old gelding travelled midfield before letting down strongly at the 300-metre mark to quickly put the race to bed.

Just 40 minutes later, LIBERTAD made an excellent return to form, holding on gamely to claim the Group 2 Victory Stakes. It was a gutsy second-up effort after a year off the track, showing great tenacity and delivering a well-deserved reward to his patient owners. The team will now map out the next steps, with the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 looming in a fortnights time.
