Group 1 Winner Libertad Retires To Stud At Blue Gum Farm

Archibald Racing is delighted to see Group 1 winner Libertad embark on the next chapter of his career, with the talented son of Russian Revolution set to stand at Blue Gum Farm in Victoria from the 2026 breeding season.

Trained throughout his racing career by Annabel and Rob Archibald, Libertad developed into one of Australia's most consistent and durable sprinters, compiling an outstanding record that saw him win at Group level across four consecutive seasons, reaching the pinnacle when he captured the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth last spring.

Blue Gum Farm confirmed on Wednesday that Libertad will join its stallion roster for 2026. He will stand at a service fee of $9,900 (inc. GST).

“We are extremely proud to stand the first Group 1 winner to race in our silks. Securing Libertad, despite strong competition, marks a significant win for the farm as we continue to strengthen an already respected and successful stallion roster,” Jason Stenning said.

“He demonstrated class, consistency and longevity throughout his career. He won Group races at two, three, four and five. To my knowledge, the only other stallion in the modern era to achieve that feat is Lonhro.”

Libertad announced himself as a colt of immense promise when he claimed the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes as a two-year-old before returning at three to win the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes. He continued to improve with age, adding the Group 2 Victory Stakes as a four-year-old before delivering a career-defining performance in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at five.

His consistency, toughness and longevity were hallmarks of his racing career, attributes that made him a favourite within the stable and among his ownership group.

By Russian Revolution and out of the Charge Forward mare Electric Charge, Libertad hails from a strong Australian family that includes Listed winner and multiple Group 1 placegetter Miss Bussell, while his third dam is multiple Group 1 winner Lurestina.

As just the second son of Russian Revolution to retire to stud in Australia, Libertad offers breeders access to an exciting emerging sire line backed by elite racetrack performance and a pedigree rich in Australian speed.

Archibald Racing congratulates Blue Gum Farm on securing Libertad for stud duties and extends a sincere thank you to all of his owners and connections who have been part of his journey throughout his outstanding racing career. Their support helped create countless memories, culminating in a Group 1 victory and more than four seasons of success at the highest level.

We look forward to following Libertad's progress as he begins his career at stud.
