Hellsing Launches Spring Campaign in Cameron Handicap

Talented import HELLSING will launch his spring campaign at Newcastle on Friday when he lines up in the Group 3 Cameron Handicap (1500m).

The six-year-old returns following a career-best victory in the Listed Scone Cup, where he showed plenty of determination to prevail in a thrilling finish. Scone Cup-winning rider Tom Sherry continues his association with the gelding, who will carry 58kg from barrier five.

While HELLSING is expected to improve from his first-up assignment, Annabel believes his trial work has him forward enough to make his presence felt.

“He’s first-up, but he has trialled up quite forward,” Annabel said.

“He’ll obviously have improvement to come, with his grand final being The Big Dance, but he didn’t have an overly long break after finishing last preparation with a win in the Scone Cup.

“He maps to get a nice run and is certainly not out of it. He’ll derive good benefit from the outing, but I’d still expect him to give a bold showing. I think he’s a nice each-way chance.”

Already a three-time Listed winner across Ireland and Australia, HELLSING will be looking to add a Group victory to his record as his spring campaign gets underway.

The Cameron Handicap will be run as Race 7 at 4.40pm.
