Annabel and Rob Archibald’s juvenile team continued its strong form this week, with Home Missile, Half Pipe and Mr Bohemian all breaking through for impressive maiden victories.
The run began on Tuesday at Muswellbrook, where Half Pipe lived up to the market’s expectations with a dominant three-length victory over 1000m. The son of Extreme Warrior had shown plenty of promise at the trials and, despite racing greenly on the heavy surface, proved far too strong under Braith Nock.
Purchased for just $25,000 from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Half Pipe looks an exciting prospect for his connections.
“He's got plenty of upside,” Annabel said after the win.
“He's just going to need racing and experience, but he's certainly got the ingredients to make a really nice colt.”
The stable’s winning momentum continued on Friday at Scone when Home Missile produced a determined performance to score at his second career start. Having finished runner-up on debut at Goulburn, the son of Home Affairs showed the benefit of that experience, digging deep under Mitchell Bell to snatch victory right on the line.
A $170,000 Magic Millions purchase, Home Missile is a three-quarter brother to Group 2-placed Armed Forces and shapes as another promising young horse for the stable.
Adding to the week’s success was Mr Bohemian, who became the 16th winner for second-season sire Prague with an impressive victory. The gelding has already proven a bargain buy, having been secured for just $1,000 through the Inglis February (Early) Online Sale.
Three juvenile winners in the space of a week is a pleasing result for the stable and highlights the depth of emerging young talent across the Archibald Racing team as preparations begin to turn towards the new racing season.
